Rosie started her life in What Cheer, Iowa. As a teenager, she volunteered to play the organ at her local Methodist church. After high school, she continued her education at Iowa Wesleyan University in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where she got her two-year teaching degree and started teaching 3rd grade at the elementary school in Marengo, Iowa.
After two years, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she taught third grade at Kenwood schools and continued her own education, earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education.
In 1970, she married Merle Arthur McCoid. They had two children, Will and Mary; subsequently, they had four grandchildren: Jacob, Luke, Mariah, and Samantha.
While still teaching, she took care of her elderly parents, raised her two children, volunteered at her church playing the organ and teaching religious classes. She also gave her time to be a Girl Scout leader, among other things.
