Obituary
Roxie Elizabeth Shepperd
January 30, 1925- October 1, 2025
Roxie Elizabeth Shepperd, 100, passed away peacefully at her home in
Worland, Wyoming, surrounded by her children on October 1, 2025.
She was born on January 30, 1925, in Temple, Texas, to Rufus W. and Lessie Earl (Spell) Stephens. Roxie spent her early years in Temple and graduated from high school in 1942. She then attended Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas, earning her Bachelor of Science degree.
Roxie loved teaching and spent several summers traveling the country working at camps before eventually settling in Van, Texas. It was there that she met the love of her life, Will Millis Shepperd Jr.
Shortly after their engagement, Will's career with Pure Oil Company took him to
Worland, Wyoming, in 1949. Roxie joined him the following year, and the couple married upon her arrival on September 5, 1950. They shared nearly 50 wonderful years together until Will's passing in 1997. Their loving union was blessed with two children, Rex and Karen. Roxie taught Physical Education at Worland Middle School for 26 years, inspiring countless students both in the classroom and through coaching volleyball, swimming, and tennis.
Outside of work, Roxie embraced life to the fullest. She was a fixture at the golf course and country club, and she enjoyed good company and a cold drink at Goose's. She loved traveling with her best friends and was fortunate to see many parts of the world. With a lucky streak, she also enjoyed many trips to the casino. When seeking peace and quiet, Roxie found it in her beloved cabin in the Big Horn Mountains, where the fresh mountain air and tranquil setting became her sanctuary.
Roxie was known for her straightforward nature, you always knew where you stood with her. She was witty, sharp, and full of humor, yet also deeply loving. Family was her greatest joy, and she treasured watching her grandchildren grow and later welcoming great-grandchildren into her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Will; her brothers, James, Paul, and Tom Stephens; and her sister, Rosalie Fulton.
Roxie is survived by her son, Rex (Angie) Shepperd of Big Horn, Wyoming; daughter, Karen (Keyno Shellenbarger) Shepperd of East Lansing, Michigan; grandchildren, Nicole (Eli) Anderson of Denver, Colorado, Eric Shepperd of Phoenix, Arizona, Jared Shepperd of Bozeman, Montana, and Matthew (Kelsey) Shepperd of Bozeman, Montana; and great-grandchildren, Jrake, Wyatt, and Skyler.
A celebration of Roxie's life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com
