Roy Burtt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spurlin Funeral Home - Stanford on Dec. 16, 2025.
Roy Robert Burtt, 88, of Waynesburg, KY passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at Baptist Health Lexington. Born on November 25, 1937 in New York, NY to the late Howard and Marie Burtt. He is the widower to the late Patricia Walker Burtt.

Roy was a dedicated U.S. Navy Veteran, and respected Aircraft Inspector who worked with multiple airlines, lived his life with a sense of duty and passion for the skies and the seas. He was a member of VFW Post 345 in Stanford, Kentucky.

Roy's love for the sea was as profound as his passion for the air. As a proud owner of a sailboat at one point in his life, his heart was always at peace when he was sailing the open waters. He also had a knack for creating intricate model ships, which showcased his attention to detail and patience. These models are a testament to his craftsmanship and love for the sea. On land, Roy was a devoted gardener who found joy in nurturing life in his backyard. He loved riding his golf cart, embarking on journeys that sometimes spanned up to four hours. This was his last bit of freedom, a testament to his enduring spirit of adventure. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like going out to eat and spending time with loved ones.

Survivors include his three children, Scott Burtt, Christine Engle and Kelly Gleason; and three stepchildren, Ginnie Carver, Julie Howard (Kelly) and Charlene Velanteus (Danielle); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Burtt; parents, Howard and Marie Burtt; three brothers and one sister.

A one-day service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Spurlin Funeral Home in Stanford, KY. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 p.m. with Bro. Dan Gutenson officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY.

Active Pallbearers are Kelly Howard, Shannon Howard, Brian Allen, Mitchell McClure, Will McClure and Joel McClure.

Full Military Honors will be presented by Caswell Saufley Post 18.
