Roy Harold Pennington Sr., 75, of La Porte, Indiana, suddenly passed away on April 11, 2024 at his daughter's home, where he was surrounded by his loving family
Roy was born on April 13, 1948 in Viper, KY, to Luther and Dora (Fields) Pennington.
On February 13, 1971 in La Porte, IN, he married Tonya Vermilyer, who survives. Also surviving are his 6 children, Dora Jones of La Porte, Roy Pennington, Jr. of La Porte, Rich Pennington of La Porte, Amanda Pennington of La Porte, Carl Pennington of La Porte, and Roger Watt of North Vernon, IN; 12 grandchildren, Kyle, Jacob, Shelby, Chelsey, Cody, Cory, Bailee, Brooklyn, Colton, Reid, Liam, and Elliana; great-grandchildren, Aria, Korbyn, Layla, Greyson, Preston, and Kenyan; 3 sisters, Martha Sumner of Skuddy, KY, Linda Smith of Austin, IN, and Rita Lowe of Austin, IN; 4 brothers, Tommy Pennington of Austin, IN, johnny Pennington of Austin, IN, Jerry Pennington of Austin, IN, and Troy Pennington of Marengo, IN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Dora Pennington; 3 brothers, Jay, Gene, and Don Pennington; daughter-in-law, Sherri Pennington; and grandson, Dakota Pennington.
Roy was a car enthusiast, buying and selling cars throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing, the color blue, riding his scooter, visiting the casino, caring for his neighbors, and attending car shows. Roy also enjoyed leisurely drives looking at cars. Most importantly, he dearly loved his children and grandchildren, who were his whole life. Roy's greatest moments were spent with his family. He will be fondly remembered for his humor and being the life of the party.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Monroe Jones officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
A time of visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the family c/o Tonya Pennington, 2900 Monroe Street, La Porte, IN 46350 or to the donor's choice.
