Roy Stepps, Jr., 68, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 27, 2025, at ECU Health Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 1st, at 4PM, in Wilkerson Funeral Chapel. Burial will immediately follow the service in Pinewood Memorial Park. Visitation is Thursday, July 31st, from 6-8PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home. The family will receive family and friends at other times at the home of John and Chastity Banfalvy, 3900 Stantonsburg Rd, Greenville, NC 27834.
Roy Stepps, Jr., was born to the late Roy & Bernice Stepps on September 12, 1956, in Bethel, NC. He spent his entire life in the Greenville area. He attended Pactolus Elementary, Third Street School and JH Rose High School.
In his earlier years, from the time his arms could work, he held a great passion for the drums both recreationally and professionally. He became quite an exceptional drummer that led to playing with a few well-known artists Dolly Parton, Stella Parton, Conway Twitty, and Molly Hatchet, etc. His musical career lasted over 30 years and gifted him with many lifelong friendships.
Roy was employed as an Industrial Electrical Engineer and worked with several contractors throughout Pitt County. He also spent a significant amount of time working at Texas Gulf in Aurora, NC. In his free time, Roy was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed deer hunting.
Roy's greatest love was his family. More than anything, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to spend time with, play, or entertain them.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Stepps, Sr. and Bernice Howell Stepps; his brother, Marvin "Buddy" Stepps; and sister, Margaret Ann Beales.
Roy is survived by his wife, Teresa "Jean" Brown Stepps, of 50 years; his daughters, Chastity Stepps Banfalvy (John), and Ashley Marie Grimes (Chris); grandchildren, Robert "Robbie" Bass III, Dylan Bass, and Donna Jean Pilgreen; great-grandchildren, Christopher Sanderson, Roy Butler, and Bethany Butler; sisters, Edith Mae Price and Geraldine Wade; along with several nieces and nephews.
