ROYCEANN SMITH
Celebration of Life Remembrance
LUCAS FUNERAL HOME
Royceann Smith was born in Durant, Oklahoma on August 16, 1949, to Charlie Royce Newell and Betty Jewell (Pierot) Newell. She joined God in Heaven on September 19, 2025.
Royceann cherished her childhood in Durant and frequently recounted the best of times with her parents and beloved older sister Sharon and younger sister Cathy. She graduated from Durant High School in 1967 and subsequently attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where she met the love of her life, James Dale Smith of Healdton, Oklahoma. The relationship flourished culminating in a 56 year union of wedded bliss.
Royceann and Jim moved to Irving, Texas and started their family in 1970 with the birth of their oldest son Scott Alan quickly adding their second son, Jason Erik, in 1972. Jim and the boys were Royceann’s passion. She dedicated her life to ensuring that each was enveloped in a love that only a wife and mother can provide. To Jim she provided unending support. To the boys she provided guidance, discipline and encouragement. The end result was a happy family that served as a model for others. Together Royceann and Jim raised a scientist and an architect of which they were immensely proud. More importantly to her, they raised boys that were loving husbands and fathers themselves, emulating the family in which they had grown.
Enormously kind-hearted and generous, Royceann’s favorite pastime was buying gifts for others. She loved Christmas as it gave her the opportunity to share her good fortune with everyone, most importantly, her treasured grandchildren for whom her love knew no bounds.
Royceann was preceded in death by her mother and father. She leaves to cherish her memory husband Jim, son Scott and wife Elizabeth, son Jason and wife Signe, grandchildren Parker and wife Hannah, Payton, Packard, Paisley, Renzo and Senna, sisters Sharon and Cathy and numerous loving relatives and friends.
