Russell Dale Anderson, 87, of Cumming, Georgia passed away on January 24th, 2025. He was the son of Ruth and Donald Anderson. Russell was born on July 2, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana and soon moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he lived until 1964.
He started his family in Milwaukee and was married to his loving wife of 60 years, Patricia Voight Anderson. They had three children, Jeffrey, Marcey, and Richard. He also began his successful career with Findley Adhesive there, and when an opportunity for a promotion presented itself, the family moved to Berea, Ohio.
Russell and Patricia were known for their altruistic ways, and during their time in Ohio, they joined, with friends and started a school for children with special needs. Once again, due to the growth of his career, the family would soon again be relocating, this time to Tucker, Georgia. When he announced that he was moving, the town of Berea awarded the couple with the first annual Award for Community Service. The city continued the tradition of the yearly awards. The award became known as the Award for Community Service, in honor of the Russell Anderson family.
When the family settled in Tucker, Georgia in 1970, Russ continued to be an active volunteer. He worked with the US Freestyle Wrestling Federation, and he played an integral part in growing the program from 300 to 4,000 kids.
As Russ neared retirement, he moved to Gainesville, Georgia and then he and Pat eventually settled in
Dawsonville, Georgia. There, they helped establish the Dawson County Humane Society. He and Pat worked diligently every Saturday and were able to help over 10,000 animal adoptions through the organization and at offsite locations.
Russell was an outstanding, successful, and giving person. He was an athlete at Rufus King High School. He lettered in four sports and was eventually inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2022. Russ was a loving husband and a wonderful father to his three children. He was promoted several times at Findley Adhesives and was so established and connected in the business that he held patents and helped the industry progress during his time there. And he and his wife's history of philanthropic work speaks for itself.
He is survived by his son Jeffrey Anderson of Lawrenceville, Georgia, his daughter, and son-in-law Marcey and Butch Dyer of The Villages, Florida, and his son, and daughter-in-law Richard and Angela Anderson of Lagrange, Georgia. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Christina, James, Jessica, Austin, Zach, and Mitzi. He was also blessed by having and meeting two great-grandchildren recently, Sam and Anderson.
The family is planning private memorial services.
