Rubon Samuel Thornock was born September 23, 1926 in Bloomington, Idaho to Donald Augustus and Lydia Payne Thornock. He passed on February 6, 2025 in Santaquin, Utah at the age of 98.
He grew up in a small home in the mouth of Bloomington Canyon learning to work on the farm. He also learned how to fix almost anything - an amazing man.
At the age of 18 he left home and joined the Army serving in England and in the Korean War. After the war he joined his two brothers, Rulon and Melvin, in Boise, Idaho and together they started a carpet business named Thornock Brothers Carpet.
He met Ellen Riggs and fell in love. They were married in 1954 and were sealed in the Ogden, Utah Temple in 1974. Their daughter Kim was born June 25, 1958 and on that day Rubon and his brother Mel started Capital Kwik carwash, the first automatic brush car wash in Boise, Idaho. He built a cabin in McCall, Idaho and spent many wonderful days there. After 20 years, they sold the business and both families moved to Portland, Oregon to work for Hana Corporation. He was a trusted and valued employee traveling the world installing car washes.
Rubon enjoyed water skiing, hunting, fishing and being with family. He always stayed in good physical shape. He and Ellen enjoyed going to the beach and traveling in Oregon.
In November of 2011, they took a leap of faith and moved to Santaquin, Utah to be close to their family. They have in Santaquin until this time, enjoying time with family and friends. Over the years, Rubon's eyesight dimmed but his will and zest for life hasn't.
Rubon is survived by his wife Ellen of almost 71 years; daughter Kim (Kirk) Hunsaker; grandchildren Chad (Sara) Hunsaker of Spring Lake, Lydia (Dustin) Mower of Payson, Russ (Misty) Hunsaker of Lehi, Tyler (Nicole) Hunsaker of Saratoga Springs, Kristin (Bryan) Wilson of Santaquin; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Lydia, brothers Rulon and Melvin, sister Lydia Lareene Barrus, 2 great-grandchildren Olivia Hunsaker and Brooks Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday February 12, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summit Ridge 4th ward building, 591 Summit Ridge Parkwary, Santaquin, Utah. Family will greet friends Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment with military honors will follow at Santaquin City Cemetery.
