RUBY COOKS Obituary
Ruby Marie Cooks was born on November 2, 1939 to Briscoe and Minnie Lee Baily McClure in San Antonio, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age. Ruby attended Phillis Wheatley High School in San Antonio, Texas.
On June 3, 1977, Ruby was joined in holy matrimony to Vernon Cooks. To this union they adopted one child, Kristal Cooks. Ruby worked as a nurse's aid at Santa Rosa Hospital where she retired in 1984.
Ruby continued her relationship with the Lord and united with Coliseum Park Baptist Church was a member for over 40 years. Ruby loved her church and served faithfully on the usher board as the President for many years. She was also a sponsor for the youth usher board for over 15 years. Ruby served in Women of Destiny (Mission), CPBC Choir and Minister & Deacons Wives Ministry. She was also a member of the American Baptist Eastern General Association of Texas and served as the assistant secretary. Ruby also served in the youth department at the American Baptist General State Convention.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband Vernon Cooks, sisters Doris Taylor and Betty Greenwood, and brother James Wilbert McClure. Ruby leaves to cherish her memory her children, Roy Bell Jr., Dori Shields (Mika Shields who she loved as her own), Clista Shields (Leroy Shields), Sheila Johnson, Kristal Cooks; grandchildren Jason Shields, Kerry Jackson (Lornna Jackson), Jamar Bell, Jeremy Shields, Kayla Grinstead, Alexis Johnson and Joy Cook; great grandchildren; great great grandchildren; brother Robert McClure; sister Billie Perryman; nieces and nephews.
