Vernon “B.I.” Lennear Cooks, 50, of Fremont, OH passed away on October 17, 2025 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, OH. He was born on September 30, 1975 in Chicago, IL the son of Robert Lee and Lue Jean (Jones) Cooks. He was a 1994 graduate of Fremont Ross High School.
B.I. was a generous father and great provider who took care of and loved his children dearly. His favorite times were spent on vacations, family gatherings, and good times with his huge family. He was a good friend and favorite cousin to many. Vernon had the ability to make people smile and laugh through any occasion. He was a lover of all sports, but especially his football; and enjoyed a friendly bet on most games of the day. He stayed up on fashion and was a great dresser, even up through the worst of his illness. He had an amazing sense of humor and was the self proclaimed leader of the family.
B.I. is survived by his wife, Rachel Cooks; children, Shaijan Cooks, Maycie Wolverton and Jalen Wolverton; father, Robert Lee Cooks; siblings, Vrunder “BeeBee” Cooks, Destiny Clark, Robert (Janet) Cooks, Keith Cooks, Latricia Gunn and Shahidah Siraaj; great aunt, Lee Cooks; best friend/brother, AD McKinstry; right hand men, Travis Jones and Uncle Chuck.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lue Jean Cooks Phillips; son, Trinnis Cooks.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 24, 2025 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont, OH.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Fremont Ross High School Performing Arts Center (Enter through back parking lot behind the school off of Cedar St.) with an hour of visitation prior to the service at the school.
Entombment will take place at Greenlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Clyde, OH.
Memorials can be made in his honor to his family.
