Ruby Jean Owens, 84, office manager for Smith Constructors Inc. went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at NHC Maury Regional Transitional Care following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 13, 2024 at 2:30 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Bro. David Buffaloe and Jerry Bridenvaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Friday from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at the funeral home.

Ruby Jean was born on April 19, 1940 in Maury County, TN to the late Ernest C. Owens and the late Irene Kelley Owens. She graduated from Columbia Central High School in 1958 and enjoyed singing and Christian music. Ruby Jean was a faithful Christian that loved Jesus more than anything in the world and was looking forward to the day of being in His presence. She was a faithful member of Riverview Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school classes for many years as well as a member of the choir and involved in many church committees.
Survivors include her two sisters Ernestine Smith and Lorene Attkisson both of Columbia; three children, Larry Browning Jr. (Christy) of Germantown, TN, Angela Bowman (Frank) of Eads, TN and Khristina Prince (Jeff) of Spring Hill; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son David Browning, two brothers Charles Hay and Douglas Owens; and a sister Odielene McNeese.
Pallbearers will be Austin Prince, Chad Smith, Jud Smith, Hugh Smith, Anthony Walker, Larry Browning Jr., and Blake Browning. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Smith Constructors Inc.
