Rudolphus Grant, affectionately known as ``Rudy'', passed at the age of ninety-one after incurring a stroke, at home surrounded by his devoted wife and family on December 27, 2024.
Born May 11, 1933 in Cusseta, Georgia, Rudy was one of six children born to the marital union of John and Eula Mae Grant.
He attended Cusseta Public Schools and graduated at the age of sixteen. Shortly thereafter, Rudy relocated to
Toledo, Ohio and was enrolled at Jesup W. Scott High School for an additional year of
education. He concluded his Senior coursework in 1950.
Rudy was subsequently hired at Textile Leather Corporation and worked there until 1953.
That same year, Rudy enlisted in the united States Army during the Korean War. He showed valor and courage while engaged in battles in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
A 32 year career with the united States Postal Service ensued.
Rudy was a phenomenal man who was well known and respected in the community for excelling in several aspects of his life.
Rudy loved his family and generated a lot of fun and Iaughter at family events. He loved to be the ``grill master"I
Rudy was an extraordinary musician, choral director, and vocalist who had been given piano lessons as a child to cultivate is love for music. His special artistic achievements included being a longtime choral director of the youth Jubilee and adult choirs at Phillips Temple CME Church. He was known for using a musical baton during his musical direction. Rudy also performed in six Toledo Opera Society sponsored operas ranging from ``Aida" to ``Porgy and Bess". In addition, he arranged a historic concert performance at Phillips Temple CME
Church by the Toledo Symphony. Moreover, Rudy was engaged in concert singing as a member of the Clarence Smith Community Chorus and the David Carter Symphonic Choir.
Rudy was an outstanding bowler who earned two rings designated for bowlers who bowled perfect ``300" games. He was a member of the Young Seniors Bowling team which won a league championship in the 2008-09 season. Rudy also earned numerous awards for stellar individual bowling feats such as being designated as the 1996 NBA Senior League champion.
Rudy also excelled in the sport of golf. He once achieved an historical accomplishment of hitting a "Hole in One''. However, his greatest joy came from teaching the fundamentals of golf to inner city youths during the Summer and encouraging them to lead productive lives. Having dedicated his life to the Lord at an early age, Rudy would
faithfully serve in various church capacities that reflected his leadership skills. His church roles through the years included Trustee Board Chairman, Steward Board Chairman, Men's Day Coordinator fir
12 years, and director of two outreach community food programs.
In recognition of his dedicated church work, Rudy received Man of The Year Awards in 2008 and 2018.
Rudy didn't boast about his personal life achievements and accolades. Instead, he used them as a platform to uplift and inspire people. Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jesse Grant ulysses Grant, Joe Grant; sisters Lessie Mae Radney and Anna Ruth Wright,. daughter Cheryl Rucker and granddaughter Shynerra Grant.
He leaves to mourn his passing and precious memories loving and devoted wife Esther; sons Jerrold Grant, Jeffrey Sr., Larry Williams; daughter Brenda Williams; daughter-in-love Candance Carter; son-in-Iove Terren'ce Thomas; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins; special friends Eugene Buckner, AI Brown, Arthur Hill, and Joe AIIen
