Russel Wayne Green, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024. Born October 18, 1941, in Desha, Arkansas to Doyle and Athlene Green, he was the oldest of three children and a toddler when the family moved to the Bellville area.
After graduating Bellville High School, Russel joined the Navy where he served on the aircraft carrier USS Valley Forge reaching the rank of Petty Officer 3. Upon discharge, he returned to Bellville and started his 36-year career with Houston Lighting and Power as a Lineman. He retired in 2001 as a Crew leader Foreman.
Russel married Laura Price on September 3rd, 1966, in Levy Arkansas after a short courtship having been introduced to each other by his cousin and her sister. After marriage, they settled in Katy, Texas where they raised their daughters Rhonda and Cathy and attended First Baptist Church of Katy.
Russel was a Mason for 54 years, being raised at Brookshire Masonic Lodge 1066 on January 21, 1971. He was a Charter Member of Katy Masonic Lodge #1439 in 1976. In 2014 he transferred his membership to Bellville Lodge #223 and was serving as Marshall at the time of his death.
After retirement, Russel and Laura moved to Bellville in 2008 where they were faithful members of Bellville's First Baptist Church, and he was ordained as Deacon on March 27th, 2011.
Russel loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed quail hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends. He loved to BBQ in his early days and won awards at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo cookoff with a talented HL&P team.
Russel loved his family and treasured moments spent with kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends that became family. He will be remembered for his stories, his mischievousness, his grin, friendship, and his unwavering faith in God. He touched many lives and will truly be missed by all.
Russel is preceded in death by his parents Doyle and Athlene Green, sister Vickie Acebo, brother-in-law David Price and lifelong friends Larry and David Krueger.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Laura, his daughters Rhonda Plata (Raul) and Cathy Foreman (Mark). His grandchildren Emily Foreman, Jared Plata, James Brady Foreman, Jacob Plata and great-grandson Greyson Wayne Plata. He is also survived by his sister Mona Tucker (Royce Jurries), brother-in-law Robert Acebo, brother and sister-in-law John L. and Carla Price, and sister-in-law Wilma Sanders. His nieces and nephews Teri Michelena, Leslie (Karl) Lindholm, Jason (Angie) Acebo, Lea Wibker, Jackie Elliot, Darren Sanders, Brian (Rebecca) Sanders, and Shelli (Charles) Crook. His great nieces and nephews: Marco, Madelynn, Mackenzie, Taylor (Alexandra), Kenidee, Katelyn, Brian (Meredith), Kristen (Anthony), Rachel (Jonathan), John, Beckett and numerous other family members.
A visitation will be held Monday, July 29th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Knesek Family Funeral Chapel in Bellville, Texas. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 30th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Bellville with interment at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Burleigh directly following.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bellville Masonic Lodge 223 Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 577, Bellville, TX 77418.
