He and Sharon had 2 daughters while in Wichita, Jennifer Marie and Lesley Allison. Russ was a loving father who truly enjoyed parenting his daughters. In 1988, Russ and Sharon fulfilled their dream of moving back to Florida, and settled in Ormond Beach. Russ went on to become the Dean of Educational Technology at Daytona Beach Community College, and then the Associate Dean for Online and Instructional Technology at Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale. He and Sharon returned to Tampa to retire, where he began his own consulting business.
Russ is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sharon, his daughters Jennifer Adkins and Lesley Staton, his sister Jan Adkins, his son-in-law Robert Staton, and his grandchildren Keller Adkins and Ella and Luke Staton. Russ's greatest joy was time spent with family. He also deeply treasured the connections he made with friends and colleagues over the years. He enjoyed traveling, wine, fine dining, and music.
A service of remembrance of Russ Adkins will take place on Sunday, November 24 at 1:00PM in the Chapel at Hyde Park United Methodist Church (500 W Platt St, Tampa, FL 33606). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to one of Russ's most-loved charities: Habitat for Humanity or the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center.

Condolences to Russ's family. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. I had the wonderful opportunity of working with Russ on a project and seeing him at a few conferences. He always provided excellent, wise guidance along with encouragement. He was such a positive and caring person. He always made time to come talk with me whenever our paths crossed, and I was always cheered by my conversation with him. Russ will be greatly missed but remembered with fondness.

About 8 years ago, I approached Russ at a conference and asked him to join the Quality Matters' Board of Directors. Surprised but ever gracious, he accepted.
Since that fortuitous day, I have benefited from his gifts. He has been a leader, friend, colleague, advocate, supporter, and all-around wonderful person. I knew he would be an asset for the organization but I had no idea how much he would contribute. I have a colleague who exhorts leaders to "Give a gift, not a burden" and that is absolutely what I received from Russ. I remain thankful for Russ - his time, his commitment, his talent and the kindness with which he treated everyone around him. Russ, I will miss you sorely but I am so very glad to have known you. My condolences and best wishes to Sharon and all of Russ's family.
