Russell Joseph Crew, Sr., 87, of Sylvester, entered into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 3, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Providence Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, south of Doles, with Eric Gonzales officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 3:30 p.m. until the time of service. Mr. Crew’s grandchildren, Kristi Smith Gonzales, Amber Smith-Tays, Rachel Crew, Sara Crew Whitman, Maggie Crew Smith, Russell Crew, III, and Jenny Grace Crew, will serve as pallbearers.

Born on December 5, 1937, in Westville, Illinois, he was the son of the late Albert B. Crew and Esther A. Mahoney Crew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret McDonald Crew; second wife, Carolyn Douglas Crew; and sister Judith Heim.

He is survived by his children, Jodie Smith, Russell Crew, Jr. and wife Sherry and Kerry Crew; grandchildren, Kristi Smith Gonzales, Amber Smith-Tays, Rachel Crew, Sara Crew Whitman, Maggie Crew Smith, Russell Crew, III, and Jenny Grace Crew; great grandchildren, Madison Gonzales, Turner Tays, Anabele Gonzales, Laura Gonzales, Natilee Gonzales, and Winston Crew; son-in-law, Randy Smith; stepchildren, Juanita Massey, Paula Brown, Shane Douglas, and Stephen Douglas; 5 step grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Baker Funeral Home.
