Russell David "Rusty" Dugan Sr., 64, of Indianapolis, passed away on November 18, 2025. He was born on October 13, 1961, in Plattsburgh, New York.
Rusty proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, where he exemplified integrity, discipline, and dedication. Following his military service, he enjoyed a long career with Design Industry, where he contributed in many ways-building shelving, managing shipping and receiving, and serving as a dependable delivery driver. His strong work ethic and reliability earned him the respect and friendship of those he worked with.
A man of many passions, Rusty loved attending the NASCAR Brickyard 500 and was a devoted fan of Jeff Gordon (#24). He was an avid collector of KISS memorabilia and Hot Wheels, with a childlike joy that never faded. Known for his goofy, quirky sense of humor and generous heart, Rusty was the kind of man who would give the shirt off his back. He cherished his Three Musketeers bars, Dr. Pepper, and Oreos, and was known for his sweet tooth and even sweeter personality.
Above all, Rusty was a devoted father and grandfather. He supported his children and grandchildren with boundless love, always there to offer guidance, laughter, or simply a listening ear.
He is survived by his children, Russell David (Christina) Dugan Jr., David Russell (Nancy) Dugan, and Carrie Ann (Travis) Dugan; his grandchildren; and his siblings, John Dugan, Linda Dugan, and Donna Knowles. He was preceded in death by his mother, Connie Dugan, and his brother, Tony Dugan.
A celebration of Rusty's life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 24, 2025, at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate a life well lived from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions in Rusty's memory may be made to Riley Children's Hospital, a cause close to the family's heart.
Though his hands are at rest, his legacy lives on in every smile he inspired and every life he touched.
In honor of Rusty's generous spirit and vibrant life, those who wish to remember him may consider sharing a story, a memory, or simply raising a Dr. Pepper in his name.
