Russell Moore Obituary

Russell H. Moore, 77, of Ellenburg Depot, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, after a long battle with prostate cancer.
He was born in Plattsburgh, October 30, 1948, the son of George and Shirley (Chauvin) Moore. As a child, he grew up in Keeseville NY and and shared many unique trials and triumphs with his seven siblings in helping with the family business.
Russell left home and served in the Army in Vietnam from 1969-1971. His adventurous spirit took him on a backpack trip through France, Switzerland, Holland and Germany before returning home and attending college at HVCC and Sienna while working for his father. In 1973, he met his soon to be wife, Debbie. On April 13, 1974, Russ married Debbie and, over the next three years, excited to start a family, they had 3 children, Joshua, Matthew, and Sara. He often said the most joyous occasion in his life was witnessing his children being born.
To provide all that he could for his family, and with little complaint, he worked on call 24/7 at Troy Tire Company (74 to 76), swing and double shifts at Al Tech Specialty Steel (76-99) and eventually returned to work for his Dad's business, George Moore Truck and Equipment and Northern Car Crushers ( 99-2011). His family and his father's respect were an important part of who he was. No matter how tired he was, he found time to help a friend, neighbor, family, or stranger. He took the extra time to teach instead of just doing and always made time to play. In 2011, he retired.
In anticipation of Debbie's retirement, he reconstructed the family camp, fulfilling his dream for it to become their beautiful full time home at Chazy Lake New York. He faced many difficult life trials with a resilience that demonstrated his love for life that we will all remember. His greatest loves were his wife, dog, children, and grandchildren. This was evidenced by the special time he made in his busy schedule to teach, work with, and speak with them. He had many hobbies including fishing, bowling, hunting, boating, swimming, and just some general tinkering.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 52 years, Deborah (Colby) Moore; children: Joshua Moore (wife, Sharon), Matthew Moore (wife, Jamie Moore), and Sara Moore; grandchildren: Malorie Carr, Katelyn, Danny, Robby, Evan, Talia, Chance, and Isabel Moore; great grandchild: Brayden Litchko; Siblings: Ellen Golden, Randy Moore, Roger Moore, Carolyn Bowley, Cindy Goodman, Donald Moore and Philip Moore.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Gretchen Moore.
Relatives and friends are invited to call November 29, 2025 from 3 to 5 PM at the Hamilton Funeral Home, 294 Mannix Road, Peru. A Funeral Service will follow in the Hamilton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William G. Reamer, officiating. U.S. Army Honors with the American Legion Post 1619 Firing Party to be accorded.
