Russell J. "Rusty" Neithammer, Jr., age 68, of Media, PA, passed away on Wednesday, May 8th at Chester County Hospital. Rusty was born June 27, 1955 at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, PA and lived for more than 60 years in the Media, PA area. He graduated from Penncrest High School in 1973 and received his BS in Electrical Engineering at Lafayette College in Easton, PA in 1977. Rusty held Professional Engineering licenses in numerous states and worked for various companies in the Philadelphia area as an Electrical Engineer, retiring in 2022 from Ballinger.
Rusty was passionate about music, especially old-time music, and was self-taught on the banjo, guitar and fiddle. He was a dancer with the Mill Creek Cloggers in the 1970s, played fiddle and banjo with the BowRockers, and guitar with the Cliffhangers old time music bands. He especially loved attending the Clifftop music festival in West Virginia. He liked old vehicles, especially old Volkswagens, and owned several VW Beetles, a VW bus camper and a 1951 Ford F1 pickup truck. Rusty was an avid walker, usually walking 5 miles around Media every day. He grew a garden every summer and was an aficionado of hot peppers. He had a quick wit, loved a good pun, and directed some good-natured humor at those who knew him well.
He was the son of the late Russell J. Neithammer, Sr. and the late Ann Barnard Neithammer.

Our families were both members of the Rose Tree Media Lutheran Church and the Knowlton Swim Team.
I remember building a go kart out of 2x6" lumber an old lawn mower and miscelleneous bicycle parts.
Building free flight gliders at McGuire airbase airshow, he won overall I got second (with his help), building and flying model aircraft.
Rusty was a year older than I and I remember him as my old brother.

I just learned of Rusty passing. He and I were Sigma Nu brothers at Lafayette College in the `70s. Rusty was smart, quick-witted, and a fun guy to be around. Even though we did not cross paths again after Lafayette, I have many great memories of him.

Very sorry to see a great Engineer gone. There is no surprise he became an engineer, he was always the great inventor. I biggest memory I have is when he built w go-cart and I built a go-cart. We went to the school and raced on the track. His was faster and he was winning. But mine was stronger. His wheel broke, I passed him and won. I'm sure if we raced again I would have lost, he was too smart and would have fixed the problem.

Rusty was one of a handful of musicians who included, inspired and encouraged me musically as a young teen. He has been a lighthouse for me, and although I didn't see him often in my adulthood, I cannot believe this pillar of a person is gone from this Earth. I love him and have nothing but positive memories of him and his incredible musical contributions.

Rusty was a most valued and highly regarded member of our prostate cancer support group. His knowledge and command of disease and treatment protocols was unmatched. At times I thought he knew more than some of the clinicians. The support and courage he provided to his brothers was unrivaled. We will miss him.
