Russell Dwayne Shields, 61, of
McAlester, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in McAlester.
The family will receive visitors on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Bishop's Funeral Service and Crematory in
McAlester, Oklahoma.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m. Friday, October 24, 2025 at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory with Rev. Danny Drake officiating. A burial will follow at Kiowa Cemetery in Kiowa, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be Sayre Shields, Billy Rice, Frankie Rice, Josh Parrish, Dwayne Harden, and Johnny Snow.
Honorary Pallbearers will be J.R. Calistro, Raymond Hicks, Robert and Renee Webb, and his Brothers and Sisters of the Billard Community.
Russell was born on September 1, 1964, in Oklahoma City to Francis and Helen (Mitchell) Shields. He graduated from Kiowa High School in 1982. On April 15, 1992, Russell married his wife, Kimberly Perry, of Ada. Russell lived the majority of his life in Pittsburg County.
Russell began working at the McAlester and Atoka Stock Yards at the age of 12 years old and continued there for many years to come.
In addition, Russell broke and trained horses, worked cattle, hauled hay and did traditional ranch work for numerous local ranchers, including Clarke McEntire and Pake McEntire. He worked for Bob and Carol Trimm and was the head of security for Cowboy's Night Club in McAlester. Later, Russell worked as the Lead Forman for McAlester Housing Authority for over 15 years. Under Russell's leadership the McAlester Housing Authority obtained several awards and certifications from governing agencies. After leaving there, Russell worked for several years at Berry Plastics and then worked as an independent contractor for several local businesses.
Russell's favorite pastime was doing anything with his grandchildren. He spent many years of his life raising and competing in game chicken arenas, and teaching the sport to his sons. Throughout his entire life, Russell was an avid pool player, playing throughout Oklahoma and surrounding states and often competed in the annual national finals in Las Vegas, Nevada. His fellow pool players were not only dear friends but considered family.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Helen (Mitchell) Shields; an infant sister, Regina Shields; and father-in-law, Billy Joe Perry.
Russell is survived by his wife Kim Shields of the home; daughter, Sayre Shields of the home; sons, Seth Shields and wife, Kaday of Eufaula; Shane Shields and wife, Bridgette of Kiowa; grandchildren, Colt James Shields, Elizabeth Shields and Cooper Shields of Kiowa and Stetson Shields of the home; mother-in-law, Shirley Perry of Ada; in addition to several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law including brother-in-law Kelly Calvert of Kiowa, Oklahoma; along with numerous other family members and friends.
