Russell W. "Russ" Thomas

Russell William Thomas, fondly known as "Russ," passed away on December 27, 2024, in Richmond, Texas. He was born on September 5, 1945, in San Diego, California to Homer Hubert Thomas and Billie Leona (Endress) Thomas.
Russ graduated from San Diego State University. He taught at Santa Barbara High School before moving to Houston in 1979. He was a contract manager for Binswanger Glass Company before returning to teaching at Elkins High School in Missouri City, Texas until his retirement in 2010.
Russ was a long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond, Texas. He taught RCIA, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and participated in many ACTS retreats over the years. He also served at Sacred Heart in various capacities such as an Acolyte, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Lector and an Usher.
Russ had a special bond with his son, Ryan, and they shared a love of trains. Russ had many hobbies such as surfing as a young man in California, playing golf and working with his hands doing various woodworking projects. Russ also took considerable pride in tending to his yard and flower beds. His family will remember his love of cooking and spending time with them. This loving husband, father and grandfather will truly be missed.
In addition to his parents, Russ is preceded in death by his sisters-in-law, Ann Wagner and Suzy Thomas.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Linda (Wagner) Thomas; daughter, Lindsay (Thomas) Schroeder and her husband, Don; son, Ryan Thomas; and brother, Dale Thomas. Russ' legacy will live on through his grandchildren, Alex and Aidan Schroeder, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
The family expresses their gratitude to the caregivers of Home Helpers Sugar Land for the care provided to Russ during the last year. Even though he spent five short weeks at The Legacy at Long Meadow Farms, we also thank them for his care.
A Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Rosary at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 507 S. 4th Street, Richmond, Texas 77469, or a charity of your choice.
