Russell Kay Yoho, 83, of Alachua, FL, passed away peacefully at Haven Hospice on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Kay was born July 11, 1939, in Gainesville, FL at Alachua General Hospital to Arch Lee Yoho and Vida Virdis Long Yoho. Kay is preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters, Lillian Yoho Vaughn and Louise Yoho McMillan; and one brother, Calvin Hesser.
Kay is survived by his wife, Freda Ingram Yoho of 62 years. Kay is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and a great-great-great nephew.
Kay was a member of First Baptist Church of Alachua. At a young age, Kay was a member of Boy Scout Troop 88 in Alachua, FL. He was in the first graduating class of Santa Fe High School, class of 1957. He faithfully served his country in the Florida Army National Guard for 8 years. He worked for CSX Railroad for 42 years starting as a Train Agent right after graduating high school, and retiring as a Train Master for the North and Central Florida District Territory. Kay was known to many as Yogi Bear. He enjoyed all of the University of Florida sports and attended many of UF's events until a few years ago. Kay was a member of the Alachua Lions Club. What he most enjoyed was spending time with Freda at their condo in Crystal River, FL. They enjoyed boating and fishing with family and friends. Kay was a gentle giant that would do anything for anyone at any time.
Funeral services for Kay will be Friday, June 9, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Alachua, FL (14005 NW 146th Ave). Visitation will be at 1:30 pm, and the service following at 2:00 pm. A brief graveside service will immediately follow at Newnansville Cemetery in Alachua, FL.
