Ruth Elaine (Snedden) Bencivenga, age 89, of Byram Township, New Jersey, died on Monday, September 2, 2024 at Hackettstown Medical Center in Hackettstown, NJ. She died peacefully surrounded by her four children.
Born in DuBois, PA to the late John Henry and Ruth Olive (Waggett) Snedden, she grew up in Kenvil, NJ and attended Roxbury High School. Ruth had been employed at MacGregor's working in sales, NJ Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator, and Customer Service/Accounts Receivable Clerk with White Heat Fuels in Stanhope before opening her own business. She and her husband proudly owned and operated Harry & Mac's Tavern on Lake Musconetcong in Stanhope before opening LuRu's Liquor and Deli in Budd Lake.
Finally retired, she and her husband moved to Boca Raton, FL where they enjoyed many visits from the family and traveled to and from for all the special occasions and holidays.
Even with her success as a businesswoman, Ruth's greatest accomplishment was being an amazing homemaker who so lovingly tended to her family. Ruth loved to cook and took great pleasure and joy from feeding family and friends.
She was known to enjoy her Bingo nights, trips to the Casinos, Men's softball games with her Sons, Girls softball games with her Granddaughters, and baseball/football games with her Grandsons. She affectionately became 'Nana' to all the teammates, and she loved it.
Some of her favorite memories include the Sunday Night Mixed Bowling league with her beloved husband where many friendships were made and continued throughout the years. Countless summers at Tomahawk Lake with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is predeceased by her husband of 68 years Enrico 'Harry, an infant daughter Gwen Ann, her siblings Hazel J. Erhard and her husband Bill, and John H. (Jack), Jr. and his wife Lorraine. Her husband's parents, all his brothers and sisters along with their spouses and many longtime friends she made along the way.
She is survived by her four cherished children Ruth Moore (Kelly), Wanda Pellek (Dave), Enrico 'Harry' (Sue), and Michael (Lana); Grandchildren: Chrystal, Don, David, Sara (Tiffany), Lisa (Jason), Bryan (Marisa), Steven (Chelsea), Shayna, Jacqui (Mark), Melissa, and Erica. Her extended family Danny (Andrea), and Brandon (Jenna). Great-Grandchildren: Connor, Giada, Caedon, Kaleb, Delilah, Avery, Meadow, Christian, Melody, John, Aubree, Journee, Cooper, Charlotte, Raidyn, Genevieve, and Enrico. Her extended family Nate, Zachary, and Luke; as well as many Nieces, Nephews and longtime friends who were all near and dear to her heart.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 9:00-10:00 AM at Morgan Funeral Home, 31 Main St., Netcong, NJ 07857. A Funeral Service will be held immediately following visitation at the Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery.
