Ruth Ann Skaggs Blevins, age 85, of Cranston Road, Morehead, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of her home.
Born December 14, 1939, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Loranza D. and Nola Mae Parker Skaggs. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, William Daniel Blevins, Sr.; one brother, Bud Skaggs; and four sisters, Virginia Mae Skaggs, Una Joyce Parish, Dorothy Maxine Parish, and Brenda Fern Sparks, who took her journey to heaven on May 10, 2025.
She is survived by seven children and their spouses: Danny and Rhonda Blevins, Jr., of Morehead, Dowe and Pam Blevins of Morehead, Dana and George Caudill of Morehead, Donna and Chris Oakley of Olive Hill, Darren and Amy Blevins of Morehead, Derrick and Emily Blevins of Morehead, and Darla Lewis of Morehead; 17 grandchildren: Will Caudill, Lee Blevins, Kayla and Brad Sloan, Neenah Caudill, Brittany Blevins, Tyler and Brianna Blevins, Summar Oakley, Christopher and Morgan Oakley, Arlie and Dustin Hogge, Brooke Blevins, Jazlyn Oakley, Tucker Blevins, Grayson Lewis, Toby Blevins, Macy Lewis, Silas Blevins, and Gus Blevins; 9 great-grandchildren: Caden Blevins, Brylee Ann DeBord, Parker Sloan, Owen Blevins, Brady Hogge, Palmer Sloan, Larry Hogge, Crue Oakley, and Baby Oakley due in November. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
She was a longtime member of the Rowan County Historical Society, where she was involved in the creation of history books and local cemetery preservation, as well as a former member of the Route 377 Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and the Tilden Hogge Elementary Booster Club. In her early years, she worked as a grill cook at Morehead State College but spent the majority of her life as a homemaker, raising her children and grandchildren.
She was Elvis Presley's Number One Fan. She also enjoyed spending time with family, putting on talent shows, designing floats to be in local parades, taking videos and pictures, scrapbooking, studying genealogy, and creating and maintaining the Fort Blevins Museum to showcase her family history.
She will be remembered fondly by many in the community and will be greatly missed by her family.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Hogge Cemetery. Her children Danny, Jr., Dowe, Dana, Donna Mae, Darren, Derrick, and Darla will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025, and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals, 400 Fraley Drive,
Morehead, KY 40351.
