Ruth Cornell Obituary

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joe F. Cornell; and sisters Becky Scalise, Sarah Lewis, and Lucille Phelps. She leaves behind to cherish her memory numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close cherished friends.
Ruth served as a lieutenant in the Salvation Army for three years from 1946 to 1949 until she met and married her beloved husband, Joe. Following her marriage, she dedicated herself to serving her community, particularly the youth. For 15 years, she served as a youth leader for the San Angelo Recreation Department until her retirement. Known for her servant's heart, Ruth spent her life volunteering with the Salvation Army, where she held the position of Young People's Sergeant Major. Her special affection for children led her to take on a nurturing role within her church, providing care and guidance to the youth.
Ruth's generosity knew no bounds. She was known for her willingness to give and her infectious smile that could light up any room. A talented musician, she played the tambourine and cornet, and her beautiful singing voice touched the hearts of many. In her leisure time, she enjoyed collecting anything Betty Boop-related.
In addition to her community service, Ruth volunteered at various nursing homes throughout San Angelo, bringing comfort and joy to the residents. Her dedication to serving others and her commitment to her faith as a Salvationist brought pride to both her community and her family.
Ruth will forever be remembered and missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024, at Belvedere Memorial Cemetery in San Angelo.
