She is survived by her husband Eugene P. Duhon; her three children, Nancy Duhon, Donna Duhon, and Jan Fabacher (Brad); her three grandchildren, Ethan P. Champagne (Aydan), Connor E. Champagne (Camryn), and Haley R. Fabacher; her brother Russell J. Prejean (Charlotte); and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ruth was born to Mabel (Lyons) and Clovis Prejean in 1939. She grew up in the Mire area and attended Rayne High School. She worked for many years at Home Furniture Company, and retired from the Lafayette School Board working at Alice Boucher Elementary. She also volunteered at the Jean Lafitte Acadian Cultural Center where she loved using her Cajun French expertise to engage with visitors.
Ruth was known for her joie de vivre; her desire to be constantly on the go and trying new things. She loved color and being creative. She was an avid crafter, and in her retirement became very active in the Lafayette Greenhouse Senior Center were she was thrilled to find friends that shared her crafting and creating spirit. She loved a good bargain, and was an antique collector, frequently going to garage and estate sales looking for pieces.
The family would especially like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Jasmine Bernard, Hospice of Acadiana, and T.S. Granger for their wonderful assistance in caring for her over the last few years.
