Ruth Ann Everetts, 74, of Greenwood, passed on September 8, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on December 12, 1950, in Fountain Head, Tennessee to Will T. Troutt and Margaret Frances (Carter) Clark.

Ruth Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and fiercely loyal friend. She attended Greenwood High School and graduated from IU School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she cared for thousands of patients during her career in the Neuro Critical Care Unit at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and later as the school nurse at Center Grove High School. She was the ultimate caregiver, always showing up for people when they needed her most.

She was also known for her legendary determination and strong opinions. Ruth Ann lived life unapologetically on her own terms. Along with that fiery independence was a loyal, generous heart - someone you could always count on. She was a pillar of strength for her family, selflessly opening her home to help raise nieces and nephews.

Ruth Ann loved water and made countless memories on summer days at the lake and winters on the Gulf Coast, soaking up the sun, sharing laughter, and (predictably) making new lifelong friends along the way. She was an excellent card player, quick with a joke, and had a knack for finding humor in life's everyday absurdities. Nothing brought her greater joy than time with her grandchildren, who lit up her world.

Her sharp humor, unwavering opinions, and immense love leave a void that cannot be filled. Ruth Ann was one of a kind, and life simply will not be the same without her.

Ruth Ann is survived by her son, Stephen (Betsy) Smith; daughter Margaret "Katie" (Shane) Bui; grandchildren Jacob Smith, Charles Smith, Maya Smith, and Revan Bui; sisters Angela White and Scharon Clark; and many special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather William Clark, her sister Judy Cook, and her brother David Troutt.

Details for Ruth Ann's celebration of life will be announced when available.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Ruth Ann may do so by donating to the Humane Society of Johnson County at www.hsjc.org.

Arrangements have been entrusted to G.H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center at The Gardens of Olive Branch.

Ruth Ann and I were neighbors, I had the pleasure of meeting her at a block party in the neighborhood and she never meet a stranger it was like we knew each other forever. I would often see her outside in the driveway or doing something in the garage as I walked my dog and she was always quick to say hi. I meet her son today on the walking trail while walking my dog and I can see that she raised him to be like her he was a kind man who also never meet a stranger. I´m so sorry for the family´s loss, she was such a treasure. May all of you find peace in your memories and knowing that she blessed so many lives. Jennetta Gambrel on McRae Way.

Ruth Ann and I became friends when Katie became one of my students. She worked in my room as a parent helper. We became fast friends. Later we kept in touch on Facebook. I´m so sorry to learn of her passing. She loved her kids and grandkids fiercely. She will be missed. My sincere condolences to her family.
