Ruth Ann Everetts, 74, of Greenwood, passed on September 8, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on December 12, 1950, in Fountain Head, Tennessee to Will T. Troutt and Margaret Frances (Carter) Clark.
Ruth Ann was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and fiercely loyal friend. She attended Greenwood High School and graduated from IU School of Nursing. As a registered nurse, she cared for thousands of patients during her career in the Neuro Critical Care Unit at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and later as the school nurse at Center Grove High School. She was the ultimate caregiver, always showing up for people when they needed her most.
She was also known for her legendary determination and strong opinions. Ruth Ann lived life unapologetically on her own terms. Along with that fiery independence was a loyal, generous heart - someone you could always count on. She was a pillar of strength for her family, selflessly opening her home to help raise nieces and nephews.
Ruth Ann loved water and made countless memories on summer days at the lake and winters on the Gulf Coast, soaking up the sun, sharing laughter, and (predictably) making new lifelong friends along the way. She was an excellent card player, quick with a joke, and had a knack for finding humor in life's everyday absurdities. Nothing brought her greater joy than time with her grandchildren, who lit up her world.
Her sharp humor, unwavering opinions, and immense love leave a void that cannot be filled. Ruth Ann was one of a kind, and life simply will not be the same without her.
Ruth Ann is survived by her son, Stephen (Betsy) Smith; daughter Margaret "Katie" (Shane) Bui; grandchildren Jacob Smith, Charles Smith, Maya Smith, and Revan Bui; sisters Angela White and Scharon Clark; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather William Clark, her sister Judy Cook, and her brother David Troutt.
