Ruth Marie (Kunkel) Kern, formerly of Kutztown, recently residing at Columbia Cottage, Wyomissing, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2026 - her 96th birthday. She was the wife of the late Kenneth K. Kern who passed on August 21, 2021.
Born on February 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Franklin L. and Emily M. (Becker) Kunkel. Ruth graduated from Hamburg High School in 1948. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Ruth enjoyed knitting, sewing quilt tops, and spending time with family. Her family cherishes the handmade scarves, blankets, and quilts she lovingly created.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Fisher), wife of Rodney Zerr; her son, Wayne Fisher, husband to Sue (Katz); and stepdaughter, Renee (Kern), wife of Otto Schick. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Casey (Seaman), wife of Steve Moser, Amanda (Zerr), wife of Kevin Schmeck, Timothy Zerr, and a step-granddaughter, Kelly (Schick), wife of Mitch Knauss. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Samantha, Zachary, and Lydia.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Kutztown. Arrangements provided by Hildenbrand Funeral Home, Kutztown.
