Ruth Moyar Obituary

Born February 14, 1931 in Oklahoma City, Ruth was the youngest of three children born to Edith (Lansford) and Harold F. Johnson, managing editor at the Daily Oklahoman. Her talent and lifelong passion for music were nurtured from an early age, and she became a skilled piano accompanist during her years at the University of Oklahoma and following graduation. She continued sharing her gifts as an instrumentalist and vocalist over many years of service to her church's music ministry.
Raised in a home filled with books, in a family that hosted newsmakers of the day, Ruth grew to love learning and history. This helped her earn a master's degree in 1957 from the University of Illinois Library School in Urbana where she met her future husband, Gerald J. Moyar, a doctoral candidate at the Univ. of Illinois College of Engineering. They were married in 1959.
She was a devoted mother to three sons - James of Mechanicsville VA (Lynelle), Jess of Chicago (Leslie) and Timothy of Naperville IL. They will miss her warmth and guidance, her graceful nature and her random but reliable mailing of clipped articles and book titles - ever faithful to print media and ever hopeful of inspiring her boys.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and brothers James H. and Milton E. Johnson.
Her cherished grandchildren are Nathaniel, Jacob, Evie, Joshua, Gerrit, Jessie, David and Margaret.
Ruth also took great pride in her nieces, nephews and cousins, longed for more frequent reunions and thrilled to hear of their adventures around the world.
Her concern for the environment stemmed from formative years in the Dust Bowl era and close family affected in the Texas panhandle.
