Ruth Mary Mummert

Ruth Mary Mummert, "Dolly," of Ellicott City, MD, passed away May 9, 2024, at the age of 79 after a sudden decline in health.
Born on November 2, 1944, in Lebanon, PA, Ruth grew up in Lebanon County, PA and attended Eastern Lebanon County High School in Newmanstown. After graduating high school, "Dolly" attended Hagerstown Business School in Maryland where she received her Medical Secretarial Degree. She pursued her career with jobs in Lancaster, PA and Philadelphia, PA.
In 1970, Ruth and her former husband Dr. Kenneth Mummert moved to Montgomery County, MD. Ken & Ruth started a family in 1972 and she then took time off to raise her two sons, John and Timothy. Prior to moving to Annapolis, Ruth worked for a law office reviewing medical records for cerebral palsy cases. After relocating to Annapolis, Ruth enjoyed volunteering at Town & Country Day School in Wheaton, MD and later at Indian Creek Prep School in Crownsville, MD, and The Key School in Annapolis, MD. While serving as a class mom, and volunteering in the library, one of her favorite hobbies was baking sweet treats for her sons and their classmates. During their time in Annapolis, the family enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay and spending weekends on the water on board the family boat.
Ruth returned to work in health care in 1998 at Anne Arundel Medical Center and spent eleven years as a transcriptionist and customer service representative. In 2004, she moved from Annapolis to Howard County, Maryland. Beginning in 2005, she would assist her son Timothy at his new law office. In 2009, she retired from her medical career. In her final working years, Ruth served as the office manager Timothy's business, the Mummert Law Firm in Glen Burnie, MD, until her retirement in 2020.
Ruth's favorite pastimes were baking, reading, word find puzzles, studying the Bible, and spending time with her family. She enjoyed many family trips to Disney World and on cruises in the Caribbean. Her faith and love for God were always evident in her daily life.
Ruth, "Dolly", was predeceased by her father Private First-Class William C. Strickler, who was killed in action on Sept. 15, 1944, in France; her mother, Anna Mary Strickler Boyer, and her husband, Lester Boyer.
Ruth is survived by her loving sons John (wife Donna) of Clinton Township, NJ; Timothy (wife Stephanie) of Columbia, MD; one very special granddaughter, Emma, also of Columbia, MD; sister Barbara Fink of Denver, PA; sister Darlene Kreider (husband Barry) of Ephrata, PA; brother Emerson Strickler (wife Maryanne) of Sinking Spring, PA; and sister Betty Evans of Ephrata, PA.
Memorial services will be held at later dates in Howard County, MD and Lebanon County, PA, and details will be shared with family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations in Ruth's memory to the Mandala School of Maryland, Unity World Headquarters, and American Heart Association.
