Ruth Annette was born on June 21, 1936 and passed away on April 26, 2024 at the age of 87. Ruth Annette Nielsen passed away peacefully on April 26, 2024 in her home. Ruth Annette, beloved daughter of Roy and Edna Cochran, was born in 1936 to Vera Ardina Johnson and Merle Blaine Mitchell in Denver, Colorado. Roy and Edna adopted Mom shortly thereafter. Ruth Annette Cochran married her eternal sweetheart Glade Willard Nielsen in the Salt Lake Temple on June 24, 1955.
Mom went by Ruth later in her life and Annette in her younger years. She would happily answer to either name. Glade and Annette were blessed with 2 sons and 2 daughters. Their oldest daughter, Laurie, was also adopted like Mom. They were also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom they loved dearly.
Annette was a very accomplished pianist. She taught piano lessons for many years and loved to showcase her students and their talents. Mom also played the piano as a volunteer at the LDS Conference Center and Joseph Smith Memorial Building.
Mom's faith has always been a very large part of her life. Annette loved to serve in many capacities in church in her community. During Mom's many years of church service she served as the Relief Society President, a temple worker, a hostess at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, and as an organist.
Annette has always been an avid reader. One of her greatest joys in life was to put on a very intricate and well thought out book review at the Three Fountains East Book Club. She and her very dear friend, Sharon Watts, would plan out the decorations, the food, and even did a reader's theater during one of their turns.
Mom also really loved being a member of the DUP (Daughters of the Utah Pioneers). She served as the secretary for many years up until it got too hard for her to come out to the meetings.
One of the things that we really admire about Mom is that we have never heard her say anything unkind about anyone. She was truly a woman of faith, and we are grateful to be able to call her Mother.
Annette is survived by her Sister: Judy Starley (Jack) Sons: Craig Nielsen (Tawnya) and Brian Nielsen (Colleen), Daughters: Laurie Nielsen and Marci Olson (Brad), Grandsons: Eric Nielsen (Nancy), Jacob Nielsen (Krischelle), and Kaleb Nielsen (Glenda), and Jonathan Olson, Granddaughters: Krista McCutcheon (Dustin), Sara Archibald (Michael), Jessica Carpenter (Adam), Kayley Olson, and Emily Olson. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Parents: Roy Cochran and Edna Peterson, Brother: Roy Cochran Jr, and Husband: Glade Willard Nielsen.
