Ruth D. Shearer was born January 1, 1939 in Shrewsbury Township, York County, daughter of Jacob and Alverta McCann Jones. She was the beloved wife of Roger L. Shearer who went to be with the Lord in 1997 after 39 years of marriage. She is survived by two sons, Scott Shearer and wife Sarah of Dallastown, and Tim Shearer and wife Toni of Glen Rock, four grandchildren, Aaron Shearer and wife Jenna, Donna Thompson and husband James, Kierra Boyer and husband Chris, Cranston Shearer and wife Ashley, two step-grandchildren Jacob Boyer, Rachael Bollinger and husband Michael, three great grandsons, Conner, Eli, and Grant Boyer, three great granddaughters, Nora Thompson, Cleo and Clover Shearer, three step-great grandchildren, Tessa and Gabe Boyer, and Dylan Bollinger, three God-daughters Angie Kowalewski and husband Matt, Marci Beyer and husband Tony, Abby Patrick and husband Shaun. She was preceded in death by great-granddaughter Phoebe Sautter, sister Gloria Krout and brothers Maurice, Harry, and Murrell Jones. Ruth graduated from Susquehannock High School in 1956 and York School of Practical Nursing in 1957. She was a member of New Hope UCC and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church where she served on Church Council and Social ministry for 50 years, president of Lutheran Church Women, Church School of Religion teacher and did card ministry for years. Ruth was a former member of Shrewsbury Lutheran Home, Glen Rock Women's Club, Glen Rock Fire Co. and helped her husband when he was scout master. She worked as an office nurse for Dr. Altland, 23 years, previously was employed by Elizabethtown Crippled Children's Hospital, Sheppard Pratt, and as a private duty nurse in SYC. Ruth loved spending time with her family, especially at Blueberry Hill Cabin in Tioga Co., playing 500 and 3/13, going to auctions and yard sales.
Public visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 12:00 pm until a funeral service begins at 1:00 pm, at New Hope Fissels UCC, 3426 Fissels Church Rd., Glen Rock, PA 17327. Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Glen Rock. Donations in her memory are recommended to the church at PO Box 25, Glen Rock, PA 17327. Online condolences may be made at www.geiple.com.
