Ruth Jane Williford

AHOSKIE, NC - Ruth Jane Fitzhugh Williford, cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 16, 2025, in Ahoskie, Hertford County, North Carolina. Born on May 16, 1944, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Jane lived a life full of love, kindness, and dedication to those around her. She was eighty years old at the time of her passing.
Jane worked for many years as an accounting technician with Roanoke Chowan Health Services, now known as Trillium, before her retirement. Her professional life was marked by diligence and a steadfast commitment to her coworkers. Beyond her work, Jane had a passion for fishing, a deep love of animals, and was devoted to her family. She was a long-time member of Hickory Chapel Baptist Church. Jane's warmth, love, and faith left a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth Earley Fitzhugh and John Lemuel Fitzhugh, Sr., and her brother, John Lemuel Fitzhugh, Jr. She is survived by her best friend, Cheryl Whitaker of the home, her children, Deborah Jane Fields and spouse Lynn of Murfreesboro, and Walter Lee Williford and wife Denise of Virginia Beach, VA. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Hannah Early, Daniel Early and wife Courtney, Coleton Byrum, Kylie Williford and husband Devin, Leah Williford, Nolan Williford, and Greyson Ferrell, her great-grandson. Jane also leaves behind her brother Andrew Fitzhugh.
A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 11:00 am at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie Chapel, with Pastor Michael Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC. Family and friends are welcome to visit at any time at the family's home.
