Ruthie Miller, 87, of
Southport, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family.
She was born the daughter of John Henry and Myrtle Penny on November 2,1938 in
Southport, Florida.
Ruthie graduated from Bay High School in 1957. Then married the love of her life Billy on April 18,1958 and were married for 63 loving years. She loved her husband and family with all her heart and made sure each one felt special in her own way. The home she made was full of happiness and laughter and each one that entered knew they would always be welcomed back with open arms. The joy and love she had for each family member and friend in her life was without a doubt her greatest treasure. Ruthie worked at Southport Elementary School as a paraprofessional for 25 from 1975 until 2001. She helped teach, inspire and mold young children's lives. Every day was a joy for her to work with teachers and staff that become lifelong friends, that she cherished with all her heart.
She is preceded in death husband, Billy Miller; daughter, Kimbla Miller; parents; John Henry and Myrtle Penny; brothers, William Penny, Donald Penny, and Jack Penny; sisters, Doris Tatum and Edna Tatum; father and mother-in-law, Chester and Louella Miller.
She is survived by her son, Tim Miller (Julie); daughter, Kim White (Eric); grandchildren, Brandon Miller, Krista Keller (Tony), Chase Brown, and Matthew White; great grandchildren, Kinslee Keller, Kenadee Keller, and Asher Keller.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Sand Hills Assembly of God with Pastor Nixon Miller officiating.
Interment will follow at Old Southport Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
The family extends a special and sincere thank you to Joanna Lawrence for her exceptional kindness and grace for styling our mother for her final rest. This thoughtful gesture brought us great comfort. The family also wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to Tammy and the nursing staff at VITAS Hospice.
