Ruthlee S. Gloss, 80, of Mifflintown, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.
Born March 2, 1944 in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late Homer H. and Ruth (Pines) Smith. Her husband, Norman B. Gloss, whom she married May 17, 1964, died Feb. 19, 2019.
She is survived by three children, Christine Gloss-Ulery and husband, Keith, Louise Bossert and husband, Joe, and Norman J. Gloss, one sister, Margaret S. Vernet and husband, Russell, one brother, Homer "Tim" Smith and wife, Debbie, five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and two step-great-granddaughters.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister, one daughter-in-law, Bridget Gloss, one grandson-in-law, John Long, and a step-great-grandson, Holden Anderson.
During her working life, Ruthlee was a bookkeeper and drove bus for Lauver Busing. She and her husband owned and operated Gloss Lumber and ran a food concession business.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church where she was choir director for many years.
She was past Worthy Matron of the former Mifflin Chapter No. 260 O.E.S.
She enjoyed playing the piano, singing, traveling, reading, and especially spending time with her family and grand-doggies.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 8489 Licking Creek Road, Mifflintown with the Rev. Richard Adams officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to help with the higher education of her grandchildren can be sent to Christine Gloss-Ulery, 132 Ginger Lane, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
