Ryan K. Nelson, age 40 of Mound, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023. He was born February 11, 1983, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Keith and Judy (Mecl) Nelson. Ryan grew up in Esko, Minnesota, with his parents and brother Chad. The brothers were the best of friends. He graduated from Esko High School in 2001 where he excelled at baseball and basketball. Ryan spent one year at Hibbing Community College continuing his athletic pursuits. He graduated from Lake Superior College with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology. He worked hard at many different jobs, with one of his favorites being Whole Foods Co-op in Duluth.
Ryan cared deeply for his family and loved spending time with them. He continued to participate in sports, adding softball, downhill skiing and golf.
Ryan was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Thelma Nelson; maternal grandfather, Edward Mecl; and cousin, Blake Nelson. He is survived by parents, Keith and Judy Nelson; brother, Chad (Kelly) Nelson; nephew, Henrik and niece, Ingrid; maternal grandmother, Donna Mecl; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life for Ryan will be held Saturday, March 25, 2023, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, Minnesota. Refreshments will be provided.
