Sakellarios Alevrofas Obituary Sakellarios I. Alevrofas, known affectionately by friends and family as Charlie, fell asleep in the Lord on April 16, 2025, in Baltimore, Maryland. Born on May 17, 1937, on the island paradise of Kalymnos, Greece, he was a beacon of love, kindness and generosity throughout his 87 years.
After serving in the Greek army, Charlie set off to sea, working aboard Greek cargo ships and the TSS Olympia to help support his family back home. He carried with him countless stories from his travels around the world. In 1969, Charlie arrived in the US where he met his future wife, Victoria.
A devoted family man, Charlie was the cherished son of the late Ioannis and Petranda Alevrofas. He was a loving husband of 55 years to the light of his life, Victoria Alevrofas. Together they nurtured a beautiful family, including their grateful children, Calliope Xenophontos and Petranda Simmons with her husband Darrell. Charlie's legacy continued with his adoring grandchildren, Roman (Noy), Lucas and Simon, their beloved 'Pappou'.
Charlie's warmth extended to his siblings, standing tall as a supportive brother to Ekaterina and George, who, along with his wife Anna, cherished him dearly. A host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive him, all bonded by his unconditional love and kindness.
Charlie lived his life guided by filotimo, a deeply rooted Greek value that embodies honor, dignity and selfless generosity. Drawing at the skills he learned at sea, both in the ships kitchen and through the spirit of hospitality that came so naturally to him, he built a life in the restaurant business.
For 38 prosperous years, Charlie poured his heart into Charlies Family Restaurant in Prince Georges County, feeding not just the bodies but the souls of all who walked through its doors. His Greek heritage was a cornerstone of his life, as he delighted in cooking traditional Greek dishes and serenading his customers with the timeless melodies of his homeland.
A man characterized by his loving, friendly, and caring nature, Charlie was deeply family-oriented and found his happiest moments surrounded by laughter and good food, telling stories to his loved ones. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him, but his memory will be eternal. He lived a life marked by generosity and love, and his spirit will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Mike and Mihalis Alevrofas.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Charlies life at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, for a public visitation on Monday, April 28th, 2025, from 10-11am. A funeral service will follow at 11am. Internment to conclude all services with a burial at St. Demetrios Church Cemetery.
