Sally Mendelson

Sally Mendelson, beloved sister, cousin, aunt, godmother, and friend, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and love. Born on March 29, 1965, in Lakewood, NJ, she grew up in Jackson, later lived in New Mexico, and spent the past 20 years in Newark.
She now joins her parents, Sharon and Oscar Mendelson, in heaven. She is survived by her cherished cat and constant companion, Yogi; her sister and brother-in-law, Dana and Jeff Parker; cousin Ruthie Mass and her husband Marvin; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Linda and Michael Woods; niece Carrie Gomes, husband Danny, and great-nephew Max; and her goddaughter, Trinity Colon. She will be deeply missed by her extended family, friends, and church community.
Sally attended Jackson Memorial High School and earned a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University while working at Radio Shack. Always ahead with technology, she became the family's go-to expert and maintained lifelong friendships from school and work.
Two decades ago, Sally found both stability and support at Project Live in Newark, where she was cared for by many, especially her case manager-friend Tiara, cat friend Debbie, and neighbor Kevin. During the pandemic, their support meant the world. Around that time, she embraced her faith at Silver Lake Baptist Church, finding strength in Pastor Milano, his wife Kathi, and her church family.
Despite significant health challenges, Sally faced life with courage and gratitude, often saying she felt "blessed." She was especially thankful for the care she received at St. Michael's Medical Center.
Her greatest joy was her cat, Yogi, named affectionately after her idol and Yankees legend, Yogi Berra. A devoted Yankees fan, she rarely missed a game and built lasting friendships with fellow fans, including Diane Sitz. She also loved experimenting in the kitchen, especially with her air fryer.
Though it is heartbreaking to say goodbye, her loved ones take comfort knowing she is reunited with her parents and cheering on her Yankees from heaven.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation or in support of the staff at St. Michael's Medical Center. whose compassionate care Sally so deeply valued.
