Sammy Lee Green Sr., 81, of Richmond, passed away peacefully Monday, October 13th, 2025, surrounded by family at Lafayette Regional Hospital in Lexington.
Sam was born on July 12, 1944 in Orrick, the fifth child of Edgar and Naomi (Heath) Green. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Camden, Mo and attended Orrick School, Ogg School, Liberty School and Camden Schools, finally returning to Orrick. He was united in marriage to Gale Jean Halterman of Hardin, Mo on April 17, 1965.
Sam is survived by his three children Sam (Karry) Green Jr., Vickie (Ross) Dale, and Ed (Laura) Green all of Richmond and 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, two sisters Edna (Roy) Wilson of Excelsior Springs, Mo and Stella (Richard) MacIntosh of Richmond, Mo.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie "Grace" Millsap and Jwanita Noble, three great-grandchildren; Amber High, William Davis, and Emberlee Green and his loving wife.
Sam lived all his life in or around Ray County. He started out working at several gas stations, full and part time and worked at Lake City for 25 years as a tool setter and forklift driver for 8 years. He also worked at Green's Quarries and Hunt's Midwest Mining for 25 years as a truck driver and a member of 541 Teamsters Union as of 1973.
Sam always loved old cars. He bought and restored several of them over the years. Along with that, he belonged to several area car clubs which included; River Valley Cruisers of Lexington, Country Cruisers of Orrick, Sons of Thunder of Excelsior Springs, National DeDudes and was the founder of Hardtime Rodders of Richmond.
Sam was also a member of Masonic Lodge #57 and IOOF #208 both of Richmond.
After retirement, Sam started collecting and restoring gas pumps, pedal cars and pedal tractors. He also collected old gas station signs, oil cans, bottles and Disney characters.
In his final years he found joy in drinking coffee with his friends every morning and also playing cards several days a week.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
There will be a Celebration of Life from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, on November 1, 2025 at Green's Towing, 1012 West Main Street, Richmond, MO 64085
