Samantha Jo Cannon, 48 of Chapin, SC - "Sammy Jo" to her husband, Jeremy, of 25 years and "Sam" to friends and family, was loved by all who knew her. She was born in Columbia, SC., the daughter of Patti B. Trevathan (stepfather, W.G. Trevathan) and the late David Scott Ewan.
A graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, Sam was a gifted writer and photographer and shared her talent capturing many families' and friends' weddings, births and gatherings through the lens and her ink pen. It was nothing for her to surprise you with a poem or a special photo she captured just because she knew you would like it. Sam worked as a Staffing Coordinator for Gallman Personnel Services Inc. in Columbia before moving with Jeremy to Raleigh, N.C. and having their first child, Jordan. Upon moving back to Chapin, Sam decided to stay home when Jack and Emmi came along, and she began taking care of other's children in her own home. During this time, Sam had a calling and decided to go back to school where she earned her LPN certificate in 2015. Sam worked at Lexington Extended Care, Columbia Urological Associates, and The Heritage at Lowman caring for the residents. Those who worked with Sam nicknamed her "Care Bear" because of her compassion and love for others. Sam was our sunshine but was unselfish and shared her light with all. However, her greatest love was for her children, Jordan, Jack and Emmi and she always put them first. Sam enjoyed time with her family, weekly nights out with her girls as well as all the trips to Litchfield they shared. Sam was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and enjoyed her Bible Study group (Sam's Sisters) that met on Libby Ariail Circle in Chapin during her final years.
Sam is survived by her husband, Jeremy Bruce Cannon; daughter, Jordan Cannon Miller (Mitchell Miller); son, Jackson Harroll Cannon; daughter, Emerson Paje Cannon; mother, Patti B. Trevathan (W.G. Trevathan); sister, Carley E. Welsh (Thomas S. Welsh Jr.), stepbrother, Brock Trevathan. She is also survived by loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to the St. Peter Lutheran Church Help Fund 900 Dreher Island Road Chapin SC, 29036. Sam was taken from us too soon after being diagnosed with Early Onset of Alzheimers. She was not in denial of the disease. She was determined and often said she was going to live her best life in spite of it. Sam showed immense strength, courage, and tenacity as she battled this dreadful disease with grace and dignity. She never gave up. She never questioned God, remained strong in her faith and took comfort knowing she was destined to be with her Creator. While inspiring us all with her fight, she remained as sweet, loving and humorous as ever throughout her illness. She will be missed greatly by all who were lucky enough to have known her but will remain in our hearts forever.
Funeral services for Samantha Jo Cannon, will be held at 11am on Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 900 Dreher Island Rd, Chapin, SC 29036. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
