Samantha Lyn Curtis, affectionately known to her friends and family as Sam, passed away on August 3, 2025, at the age of 38 in Mint Hill, North Carolina. Born on September 15, 1986, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Sam made a lasting impact on everyone she encountered through her warm personality and undeniable talent.
A proud graduate of West Mecklenburg High School, Samantha excelled as a student-athlete, participating in swimming, track, soccer, and cross country. Her pursuit of knowledge continued at Central Piedmont Community College, where she received an associate's degree in Architecture and Interior Design. For her passion in beauty, she graduated from Paul Mitchell with a license in Cosmetology, which led to a fulfilling career as a hairdresser. Samantha's creativity and artistic flair allowed her to touch many lives through her work, making each person who sat in her chair feel special and valued.
Sam was known as a real people person; she never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to connect with others. Her big heart and sweet nature endeared her to all who knew her, and her humor often brought joy to those around her. Outside of her professional life, Sam was a huge movie buff and cherished her artistic talents. She loved to draw and spent many joyful hours swimming, indulging in her favorite things to include lobster.
Sam is survived by her loving mother, Judy (Don Cooper) Sears, her father, Donald Curtis, her sister, Melissa Sears, her aunt, Patty (Dave) Medeiros, her uncles, Michael (Cathleen) Cabral and Arthur (Carol) Cabral, her cousins, Derek Cabral and Jasmine Cabral, and her beloved dog companions, Lana and Lacey, along with a host of extended family and friends who will remember her fondly.
She was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Pricilla Cabral, and her grandfather, Marquis Cabral.
A memorial gathering to honor Samantha's life will be held on August 16, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Raymer-Kepner Chapel in Huntersville, North Carolina. Sam will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know her.
