Samuel Lynn Baumguardner

March 28, 1959 – July 31, 2025

Samuel Lynn Baumguardner, our incredible father, a steadfast patriarch and cherished Papa to eight grandchildren, departed this world with quiet grace on July 31, 2025, in the embrace of family at a family home in Odessa, Texas. Born on March 28, 1959, in the same rugged yet warm-hearted town, our father's life was a radiant testament to the enduring power of love, resilience, and selfless devotion. He spent the majority of his adult life growing his family in Notrees, Texas, his hometown, in the same home our mother was raised in.

Dad was a man of few words, yet each syllable he uttered carried the weight of profound conviction, echoing the lessons of his own father, who he lost at a young age. He spoke through action, his life built of purposeful deeds. In the fiery test of adversity, Dad's spirit shone brightest. Through the trials of early fatherhood and beyond, he bore the burden of multiple jobs-often at great distances-ensuring we (his family) knew only security and love, never the sting of struggle. His hands, calloused and strong from a lifetime of labor, cradled us as children with a tenderness that belied their strength, embodying a gentleness that touched souls and a patience that nurtured hearts. These traits only intensified with each successive grandchild he was blessed with.

A welder by trade since the age of 15, Dad poured his unwavering loyalty and steadfast spirit into his craft until his retirement in March 2025. His colleagues revered him as a beacon of dependability (though sometimes a bit of a wild-card), ever ready to extend a hand to those in need without prompting or expectation. His friendships, though few, were forged in the fire of loyalty, boundless in their depth and enduring in their impact.

Dad found comfort in nature; on the water, in the sand, or beneath the trees. Whether boating, fishing, or exploring the world with us on boats, four-wheelers, or motorcycles, he reveled in the simple joys of life. His quiet laughter could lift the heaviest heart. He loved his Butter Pecan ice cream, movie butter popcorn, and the twangy tunes of old country music; songs that carried the light-hearted meaning he cherished. A man unswayed by vanity, Dad's desires were rooted in the simple, the authentic, and the true. Through countless falls, he rose again, his spirit unyielding, his resolve unshaken.

Dad's life was a tapestry of profound impact, woven with threads of fault, folly, sacrifice, kindness, and, ultimately, an unbreakable commitment to those he held dear. His legacy, a constellation of love and generosity, will forever light the lives of his family and the community he helped shape. Though preceded in death by our mother, Kimberly Gale Baumguardner, his father, Samuel Baumguardner, his mother, Bonnie Bass, and his brother, Randy Gene Baumguardner, Dad remained a pillar of strength, even as his body faltered. His generosity knew no bounds; he was a man who would give the shirt off his back to ease another's burden, leaving no one in need in his presence if he could help it.

Dad made this world immeasurably brighter. He left behind a wake of light and levity, his footprints etched indelibly upon the hearts of all who were privileged to know him. His memory will be cherished, his legacy will endure, and his love will forever guide those he leaves behind.

Dad… we miss you.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm, Friday, August 8, 2025 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.
