Belem Carrasco Leyva, a cherished pillar of his family, passed away on August 3, 2025, at the age of 83 in Odessa, Texas. Born on April 15, 1942, in Terlingua, Texas, Belem's life was a testament to the enduring spirit of affection and dedication.

Belem's early years in Terlingua instilled in him an appreciation for the natural world. He carried the lessons of his youth throughout his life, working the land alongside his father, Cruz Leyva, and developing a lifelong passion for the desert's rugged beauty. His love for desert flowers was unmatched, and his pride in nurturing them to bloom was evident to all who knew him.

A man of deep faith, Belem began each day with coffee and prayer, setting the tone for a life lived with intention and grace. Despite his struggles with depression, he remained a strong presence in the lives of his beloved family.

Belem's legacy is carried on by his devoted children: daughters Marile and Susana Leyva; sons Belem Jr., Marcos, Nabor, and Gerardo Leyva; his caring siblings, brothers Jose "Pepe," Carlos, and Alvian Leyva, and his sister Angelica Sanchez. His memory will also be cherished by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His life was beautifully intertwined with that of his late wife, Chaya Leyva, who preceded him in death. Together, they created a family founded on love and kindness. He was also preceded in passing by his parents, Cruz and Jose Leyva, his brother Guadalupe Leyva, his sister Hortencia Leyva, and his grandchild, Oliver Rodriguez.

Those who knew Belem will remember his quiet strength and the joy he found in simple pleasures, like feeding the birds and admiring the beauty of nature. His work ethic, honed from years of hunting and tending to the land, was matched only by his affectionate nature. He approached life much like the Hibiscus he so admired-blooming with vibrancy during the day and retreating to rest at night.

Belem's influence will continue to flourish, much like the desert flowers he so carefully tended. Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, his spirit remains a guiding force for all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation for Belem will begin 10am-5pm, Thursday, August 7, 2025 at Acres West Funeral Chapel.

Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel and condolences may be sent online to the family at acreswestfuneral.com.
