Samuel Sisomontha Chhoeng, 44, a resident of Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 21, 2024. He was the devoted husband of Siddhi (Shah) Chhoeng, with whom he celebrated 12 loving years of marriage. They were blessed with a son, Ravi Chhoeng, whom Samuel adored deeply.
Samuel was born in a refugee camp in Kowidang, Thailand on December 24, 1979, to Vicheth and Peuo (Em) Chhoeng of Cambodia.
Born amidst the turmoil of a civil war in his homeland, Samuel arrived in the US at the age of just one month and was raised in Lowell, MA. Samuel attended Lowell public schools, graduating from Lowell High School in 1997. Upon graduation, Samuel enlisted in the US Army and served with distinction, participating in multiple international missions, including UN peacekeeping efforts in Kosovo and two tours of duty in Iraq. During his second tour, Samuel was wounded in action and honored with the Purple Heart solemn distinction. After his honorary discharge from the military, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from UMass Lowell, followed by an MBA from Northeastern University.
Throughout his life, Samuel dedicated himself to serving his country and making the world peaceful and safe, first through military service and later by safeguarding Americans as a Federal Air Marshal. During his free time, Samuel embraced a philosophy of living life to the fullest. He pursued a wide range of hobbies, including music production and DJing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, firearms competitions, playing basketball, and traveling. He had a passion for exploring restaurants, with favorite cuisine being French and Asian, and enjoyed watching movies across all genres, from Predator to DDLJ. More than anything, Samuel's favorite pastime was simply hanging out with friends and family – eating great meals, having a few drinks, and sharing countless laughs together.
In addition to his devoted wife, son, and parents, Sam leaves a large and loving family: Sharifah, Zakariya, Kevin, Simon, Natalia, Sophy, Toufik, Ralzaly, Razaad, Sarifah, Mackenzie, Rassein, Isabella, Mason, Lucas, Milan, Alicia, Speranzo, Thyda, Lina, Nalin, Varsha, Prachi, Tarang, Alora and Zayla.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, from 4 – 7 pm in the Blake Chelmsford Funeral Home, 24 Worthen St., Chelmsford. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, March 28, at 10 am. Interment to follow in Lowell Cemetery. A Celebration of Life Reception to follow immediately afterwards.
Memorial donations may be made in Samuel's name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
