In Loving Memory: Philip H. Anthes April 17, 1934 – June 3, 2025 Philip H. Anthes, a resident of Lexington, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 91. He leaves behind a legacy defined by intellect, integrity, and a quiet devotion to both family and craft. Born in Boston on April 17, 1934, Philip was the son of Rev. Philip E. Anthes, longtime rector of St. John's Episcopal Church in East Boston, and Naomi Anthes, a dedicated registered nurse. Philip graduated from Boston Latin School in 1952 and studied mechanical engineering at Tufts College before serving in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. Stationed at the Nike Missile Battalion in Warrensville Heights, Ohio, he applied his sharp technical acumen with steadfast resolve. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1960-where he met his future wife, Harriet-and later completed an MBA at Northeastern University in 1965. Philip's career spanned multiple disciplines. He worked as a Production Engineer in the manufacturing of water meters and gyroscopes, and later served over 25 years as a Corporate Business Data Processing Manager. In a final professional chapter, he dedicated nearly two decades to radon mitigation, culminating in his leadership of a national task group and authorship of ASTM E 1465-9, a widely recognized standard for reducing radon in residential construction-a notable contribution to public health. A man of many passions, Philip found joy in auto repair, boating, photography, model railroading, and carpentry. He approached each hobby with the same meticulous care he gave to his work and relationships. Philip will be remembered for his gentle nature, inquisitive mind, and unwavering presence. He is survived by his devoted wife, Harriet; his sons, Philip C. Anthes (wife Deborah) and Peter J. Anthes (wife Maria Esther) and five beloved grandchildren Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, Alex, Philip Rafael, and Gaby who carry forward his spirit of curiosity and craftsmanship. A memorial service will be held at Church of our Redeemer in Lexington, MA on July 26, 2025 at 10:00 am.
