Samuel Devoe Davis (94) of Westport, IN passed peacefully from this earthly place on September 19, 2025. Born to Odie and Exie Davis on July 27, 1931, in Arkansas, Samuel (Devoe) later moved to the Indianapolis, IN area where he would stay and raise his family. He dutifully served his country in the Marine Corps as an aircraft mechanic, and later went on to work as a machinist. Post retirement, he spent the rest of his abundant years deeply devoted to his children and grandchildren.
Samuel (Devoe) was preceded in death by both of his parents, Odie and Exie Davis; brother Wayne Davis; sister Inez Martin; son Daniel Davis; son-in-law William Marshall; wife Oleen Davis; former wife/longtime friend Joann Gregor; and nephews Randy and Ron Martin. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Marshall Robbins (Michael); sisters Pauline Clark and Bettie Harris; grandchildren Dylan Cox (Shayna), Dustin Marshall (Mellisa), Kevin Marshall, and Lori Hinton (David); along with 16 great grandchildren, and many more loving family members and friends.
Samuel (Devoe) will be most remembered for his expressive storytelling and infectious laughter, his adoration for baseball and the rules of the game (always keeping his rule book on him to challenge an umpire when needed), his devotion to his daily newspaper (Godspeed if you forgot to bring him said daily newspaper), his protective and loving nature with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren, his endless stock of peppermint candies, and for having the world’s largest sweet tooth. We know that he’s enjoying a nice slice of cake and a heaping bowl of ice cream with the big guy upstairs right about now. After 94 years of life, this rest is well earned.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” - John 3:16
