Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home - FreeportSamuel “Sam” Robert Ferguson, 27, of Mission, KS passed away August 7, 2025. He was born November 9, 1997 in Freeport, IL the son of Frank and Jessica (Olson) Ferguson. Sam was a 2016 graduate of Pearl City High School. After graduating high school, Sam attended Iowa State University and graduated in 2021 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Following graduation Sam worked at Garmin as an Electrical Engineer. He also served in the Army National Guard from 2017-2023.
Sam was a very outgoing person that loved the outdoors. He enjoyed traveling, hiking, camping, paddle boarding, swimming, skiing, woodworking, running, and animals, especially dogs. His engineering skills were present in his hobbies too, he loved to create his own circuit boards and also loved coding and video games. Sam even had his own blog, Sam’s Spiel.
He is survived by his parents Frank Ferguson of Pearl City, IL and Jessica (Mark Lewis) Olson of Freeport, IL; sister Erica Ferguson of Colorado Springs, CO; grandfather Robert Ferguson of Freeport, IL; grandparents Donald and Debra Geyer of Monroe, WI; and many aunts uncles, and cousins.
Preceding Sam in death is his grandmother Virginia Ferguson.
A visitation will be held from 9:00 am-Noon Saturday August 16, 2025 at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home in Freeport. Cremation rites have been accorded following the visitation. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in Sam’s memory.
