Samuel Freedell passed from this life on February 16, 2024 at his home.
Sam was born in Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina on September 2, 1934 to Samuel Lee Freedell Sr and Mary Lee Morrow.
He spent his youth there until he enlisted in the military.
After 22 years in the military, he returned to North Carolina, where he met and married Shirley Ann Slaton. They resided in North Carolina and that is where they met the LDS missionaries and became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Washington D.C. Temple in the year 2000.
They then resided in various towns and states until driving down I-15, they found the perfect place. The place where they were meant to be, Cedar City, Utah. They had a happy life, made many friends and enjoyed the years they served in the St George Temple.
His beloved Shirley passed away in 2014 after Sam tenderly took care of her as her health declined.
Sam loved to ride his bicycle and most days he would cycle to Three Peaks and back which is a round trip of 12 miles and that didn't include his trips to the grocery store.
After a bout with shingles, his health declined. He never complained and was always ready to tell one of his funny stories. We will miss you Sam.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Enoch City Cemetery.

Sam was a wonderful, faithful husband to his wife Shirley. My very clise friend. They are both missed.

Sam and Shirley were two of my favorites. They were fellow southerners, and they would stop in and visit with me at work when they´d come into town. At one time, they endured the loss of their home to a fire when they were on the mountain gathering wood. This was just one more obstacle they had to overcome, but they did it as they did everything - together. They had challenging young lives, married others, had children, but eventually found one another. They eventually found the gospel and truly embraced it. Shirley loved Sam, and he adored her and was totally devoted to her. If Sam were to read all this, he´d give me a wink and a nod to all I glossed over, but those were his stories to tell. I´m grateful for the good family that saw to him all these years, for they are truly angels on earth.
