Samuel P. Hargrove, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 18, 2025 in Harlingen, Texas.
Samuel was born September 16, 1938 in St. Joseph, MO, to Samuel Perry and Lovetta Ferne Hargrove. He grew up in Atchison, KS, in the Good Intent community and graduated from Atchison High School in 1956.
Following high school, Samuel served in the United States Navy. He became a member of the Grand Lodge of F. and A.M. of Ohio, Orient & Lodge No. 321, Waverly, OH, Scottish Rite Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, 32*. Samuel retired after 35 years with Kenworth Truck Company.
He is survived by three children and their families, Debra A. Hargrove of Taos, NM, Perry A. Hargrove (wife, Stacy) of Neceda, WI, and Bethany L. Jones (husband, Dave) of Farmington, NM; six grandchildren, Jessica Kysar, Michael Hargrove (wife Amanda, sons Blake and Ryker Hargrove), Samuel Hargrove, Daniel Hargrove (wife Cheyenne, son Oliver Hargrove), Brian Hargrove (wife Megan, son Bennett Hargrove) and Elizabeth Jones, and four great-grandchildren. Samuel is also survived by one brother, Edwin Hargrove (wife Karen).
Samuel was preceded in death by his wife, Forrrestine; parents, Samuel and Lovetta Ferne Hargrove; and a grandson, Raymond O. Kysar, Farmington, NM.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Sugar Creek Cemetery in Rushville, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate monetary gifts sent to Excelsior Springs Baptist Church, 1500 Rosalea St., Excelsior Springs, MO 64024.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Jessica Kysar, Farmington, NW, Michael Hargrove, Appleton, WI, Samuel Hargrove, Necedah, WI, Danial Hargrove, Chippewa Falls, WI, Brian Hargrove, Appleton, WI, and Elizabeth Jones, Farmington, WI.
Arrangements are in care of Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs.
