It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Samuel Jacob "Jake" Holmes, who left this world far too soon on July 26, 2025, at the age of 27.
Born on December 12, 1997, in North Carolina, Jake was a bright light in the lives of all who knew him. From a young age, he had a curious mind, a kind heart, and a love for the outdoors that never faded. A proud graduate of North Gaston High School, Jake was known for his easygoing nature, sharp sense of humor, and his ability to connect with anyone he met.
Jake worked as a security officer for a private security company in Charlotte, NC, where he took great pride in his role and was respected by his colleagues. He approached his work-and his life-with a quiet strength and a strong sense of responsibility.
Those who knew Jake best will remember him for his friendly smile, his generous spirit, and his deep loyalty to those he loved. He was the kind of person who would drop everything to help a friend, show up without being asked, and always offer a word of encouragement or a laugh when it was needed most.
Jake had many passions that brought him joy. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solitude near the water, and a devoted car enthusiast with his sidekicks Katelynn and Payton Willis assisting him while he worked on his cars perfecting every detail. He loved the thrill of riding his motorcycle and ATVs, feeling most free when surrounded by nature, speeding through trails, or watching the sun set after a long ride. Jake cherished every moment he spent outdoors-whether it was a solo adventure or with his closest friends.
Above all else, Jake was a family man. He deeply loved his family and treasured the time they shared. He leaves behind his loving father, Michael Holmes, and his devoted mother, Carla Paschal-Hunt, who will carry his memory in their hearts always. He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph Holmes and Joshua Holmes; his sister, Kristen Holmes; and his beloved niece, Kate Holmes, who brought him great joy and pride. He also leaves behind his grandmother, Mary McCreight; his uncle, Richard Holmes II; and a wide circle of extended family and lifelong friends who were like brothers to him.
Jake is reunited in peace with those who went before him: his Pop-Pop, Richard Holmes; his Nana, Nancy S. Holmes; his aunt, Tracey Holmes; and his Paw Paw, Carlos McCreight.
Jake's presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will live on through the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the countless lives he touched. His legacy is one of loyalty, courage, kindness, and a life lived with heart.
In honor of Jake's life and the impact he had on those around him, a scholarship fund is being established in his name at North Gaston High School. This scholarship will support those who embody the same passion and generous spirit that defined Jake's life. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Samuel Jacob Holmes Memorial Scholarship Fund would be deeply appreciated.
